Research shows that trauma, particularly childhood trauma, can have lasting impacts on the brain and development. Both boys and girls experience traumatic events. However, women's marginalized status, particularly in certain cultures and societies, may intersect with traumatic events both in women's childhood and adulthood and impact them in significant ways. Nadine Burke Harris does an excellent job explaining adverse childhood experiences (ACES) in this TED Talk: "How Childhood Trauma Affects Health Across a Lifetime" by Nadine Burke Harris.
Consider how trauma might impact women who have more than one marginalized identity (e.g., women of color, queer or transwomen, immigrant women, etc.). How might this impact their mental health and access to health care?
