Loretta, a 30-year-old woman, was on probation for possession and distribution of methamphetamine. She lived with a man who used drugs and who was physically abusive to her and to her daughter. Another daughter had been removed from her custody. She lost her license to work in her profession due to her felony conviction. After her "boyfriend" was sent to prison, she found a job and a new place to live and was on the road to regaining custody of her other daughter. However, a random urinalysis by her probation officer came up dirty, and she was placed in an in-patient treatment program as an alternative to prison. Loretta lost her job, home, and custody of her children. Before this relapse, she had been sober for six months and was attending NA meetings.
