"To support students with exceptionalities, math teachers and paraeducators (teachers who have received specialized training to work with students with disabilities) in inclusive math classrooms use six different co-teaching models. These six co-teaching models are described by Friend, Cook, Hurley-Chamberlain, and Shamberger (2010) as follows: one teach or one observe allows for systematic data collection to easier inform instructional practice; one teach or one assists allows for impromptu support during math tasks; parallel teaching and station teaching create smaller groups to accommodate differentiated practice; alternative teaching provides for specific enrichment or remediation opportunities; and team teaching models collaborative practice and combines instructional expertise. According to Lochner, Murawski, and Daley (2019)the implementation of co-teaching models promotes individualized attention compared to if a teacher operated in a traditional classroom. As a result of lower student-teacher ratios and increased individualized attention, students with exceptionalities have increased opportunity to engage and participate in grade-level mathematics."
