How to restore the patients blood pressure

Problem: A patient states that he doesn't understand why he still feels so lethargic despite drinking so much water to quench his thirst.  The nurse says "you feel sluggish because your blood pressure is low; rather than drinking water, it would be better for you to consume soup made from a salty broth."

What might be the reason/s why this would better help to restore the patient's blood pressure instead of consuming pure water?
