Trigonometric Functions:

(a) An amateur meteorologist sets a reference point on the ground, at which they place a theodolite. The theodolite is an instrument to measure any angle from the reference point for some elevated object. The "meteorologist" then moves 150 metres to a point under a low-lying cloud. They then set a spotlight on the cloud directly upward with the theodolite used to verify that the angle of the spotlight beam is at 90o relative to the (flat) ground. Then they move back to the reference point and adjust the theodolite so that its line of sight is coincident with the spotlight image on the cloud. The measurement on the theodolite is 75o.
