How to reject a null hypothesis

Discussion:

Q: Given the following hypothesis test, what are the ramifications of a type I and type II error? Just reply in a sentence or two for each case.

Forty perccent of overweight people have at least one symptom of disease X. A new diet plan purports to reduce the incidence of disease X symptoms in the overweight population. Using a sample of diet plan participants, a researcher wants to test this claim using the following hypothesis test design:
Ho: Disease X symptoms, greater than or equal to 40%
H1: Disease X symptoms, less than 40%

a. Type I error occurs when we reject a null hypothesis when it is true. In this case describe a Type 1 error result and what it would mean.

b. Type II error occurs when we dont reject the null hypothesis when it is false. In this case describe a Type II error result and what it would mean.
