How to best approach issues that need to be addressed

Assignment task: Jo's Jogging Emporium is a specialty running store providing customers with one-stop shopping for all their running needs. They have one store located in Victoria, B.C. near downtown. The store has been operating for 10 years and is profitable but has some human resources issues that need addressing.

The store has 10 staff consisting of:

  • a store manager
  • two shift supervisors
  • three full-time customer service representatives
  • four part-time customer service representatives.

The owner is stepping back from operations and has hired a new store manager. The new store manager, Nova, has contacted you, as their HR Consultant, for advice on how to best approach three issues that need to be addressed.

James, a more seasoned employee recently inquired about the wellbeing of a new employee, Tashi. Last Tuesday, Tashi reported to James that they felt light headed. James was very concerned about Tashi and informed Nova about the situation. Nova made sure Tashi got a break and the sugar required, as Nova is aware that Tashi is diabetic. After the shift, James asked Nova what was wrong with Tashi. Tashi explained to James about blood sugar and diabetes, and provided him with access the medical cupboard in case the issue arises again.
