Choose one of the following questions and write a clear and coherent 2 to 3 pages essay in response. Use relevant material from the readings to support your response, including quotations. You are not restricted to only material since the midterm but most of your focus should be on that content and only post midterm material is required. Submit it in the manner required by your TA.
• What do the works we have read show us about the human anxiety about being a body? How do they use fears about the vulnerability of the body to help probe and undermine the belief that humans can escape the limits of the corporeal and master "brute nature"?
• Discuss how the works we've studied explore the limitations of human reason through the exploration of our relationships with other animals. How do the creatures in these works function as mirrors in which we can see our own humanity more clearly?
• What does Dr. Dysart realize is the significance of Alan's worship of Equus? Why does this knowledge cause him to question the legitimacy of his work as a psychiatrist and the benevolence of social norms?
