This article is by 'The New York Times', and the article dates to January 20, 2023. This article has also quoted Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet (Googles parent company), and added a link to their website where you can find his statement they cited.
Due to this being a 'hot topic' in the tech and business industries many other reliable sources have articles about this. For example 'Reuters' and 'India Today' had an article on this topic. Overall the 'The New York Times' is a reliable source for many reasons. It has a big editorial staff, been a news source in the 1800s, and has been known to report on latest topic. Like all news sources there will be some discussion about if it is politically motivated. For this article especially I believe this is not an issue because Alphabet is a worldwide company being put in the negative light for firing 12,000 employees. Although this topic will be used as a political tool to show how the US economy is in a recession this article is not persuading that.
