Assignment: Film Analysis Paper
Length: 800 to 1000 words.
In this first film analysis paper you are to pick a scene from East Side Sushi (available on Kanopy through the CSUSB Library) to illustrate how a specific element of film form or cinematic language shapes the movie's narrative.
In other words, discuss how a specific element of filmmaking discussed influences the audience's understanding or emotional response to the story and characters being portrayed onscreen. Watch the video that provides and in-depth example of a film analysis paper.
Task
This paper analyzes a specific aspect of film form/cinematic language as illustrated in East Side Sushi, with 4 criteria:
a. Define the element of film form/cinematic language being analyzed, being sure to incorporate information from the text book and course materials (cite the page #).
b. Describe how that element is illustrated in a specific scene (with time stamp).
c. Explain what meaning is suggested, or what emotion is evoked, through this element of film form/cinematic language.
d. Identify how the scene contributes to the movie's overall narrative.
Format your assignment according to the give formatting requirements:
a. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
b. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
