Homework: Political Activism
Description:
Many careers are influenced by government regulations. Health care is one of those careers, similar to education, where the workers are hesitant to be involved in the political process. If we are to advance the cause of quality patient care it becomes imminent that doctorally prepared advanced practice nurses get involved in the political process.
This homework will prepare me to determine what policy I may want to be involved in changing by creating an objective policy brief. A policy brief is a concise summary of a particular issue, the policy options to deal with it, and some recommendations on the best option. This homework will be two parts that include the following:
Directions:
Part I:
Write a policy brief regarding an issue relevant to health policy of 1,000 to 1,250 words. Include the following:
i. Executive summary
ii. Introduction
iii. Approaches and results
iv. Conclusion
v. Implications and recommendations
vi. Graphics and tables may be included as appropriate
Part II:
i. Locate the contact information for a state, local, or federal official for Alabama.
ii. Locate information regarding the official's stance on the issue you discuss in your policy brief.
iii. Send the official a letter or e-mail that explains your position and offers suggestions on how the official should move forward with the agenda from your policy brief. Include the brief as an attachment.
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
