Essay Assignment : Interpretative Essay
For this assignment, you are expected to analyze a short story (Araby). Use the information you have learned from the discussions on the short story and the questions in the book to help you focus your paper. You can use outside authors' critical analyses to help you, but be sure to give these sources the right credit. This means looking up reviews of the short story on the Internet or in the library.
For your topic, you could focus on:
* How the main character changes over the course of the story
* The author's use of settings to amplify his theme
* The use of imagery or figures of speech
* Evidence from the story about how this young man is changing
* The end of childhood and the beginning of adolescent for a young boy
* A theme of your choice
Use lots of quotes and insert correct source notes. MAKE SURE YOUR THESIS STATEMENT IS IN ALL CAPS. Include a Works Cited page with entries for the story and any other sources you use.
