The primary function of the lymphatic system is to return excess interstitial tissue fluid back to the blood vascular system. The vessels of the lymph system consist of lymphatic capillaries, lymphatic collecting vessels, lymph nodes, lymph trunks and lymph ducts. The lymphatic organs include the tonsils, spleen, thymus gland, and Peyer's patches.
