First, study Figure 7.11 in Godish, Davis, and Fu's (2015) book, and consider the authors' comments regarding how the Gaussian model presumes a normal curve distribution on p. 270. Next, consider Figure 3.8 on p. 91, specifically for the looping plume form due to windy conditions.
1. What problems do you think that a Gaussian model might pose when attempting to exclusively use this model in variable wind areas?
2. How could the shape of the looping plume affect the statistical model assumptions inherent in the Gaussian model?
