Assignment Objective: The aim is to develop in students an ability to write and discuss concise and informative essays about a current economic issue or problem. The essay is to test your ability to (i) identify main arguments, methodologies, and hypotheses in the literature, (ii) familiarize yourselves with the literature on your topic, (iii) comment on the features or shortcomings of existing analyses, and (iv) build and support your own economic argument.
Assignment Requirements:
You are required to write an individual essay demonstrating your ability to use economic arguments in practical context. You are also expected to demonstrate an ability to understand other scholarly work, critically analyze arguments and analyses, and comment on how improvements could be achieved.

List of topics and choosing a topic
You are required to choose a topic on Vision by Monday 3rd of February. There will be a limit to how many times a given topic can be chosen and once the quota is filled, you will have to choose another topic. Each lecture theme has one topic for a total of five topics overall. Given the number of students enrolled on the course, this means each topic will have a limit of around 25-28. Each topic comes with a list of references/links to get you thinking about it. You are welcome to investigate multiple topics before committing to one.
Once you have chosen a topic, it will not be possible to change to another. However, you can make swaps with others provided the course coordinator is kept informed of the swaps.
Note: For each topic we have given you a few references to get you started. You should research and put forward your own references.
