How team worked effectively to support hiv-positive pregnant


Problem:

I vividly recall a time when our inter-professional team worked effectively to support HIV-positive pregnant mothers through their pregnancy journey. Our team consisted of social workers, counselors, psychologists, nutritionists, medical physicians, and midwives. Each member brought unique expertise to the table, allowing us to provide comprehensive care for the mothers and her unborn babies. According to Fay (Journal of Applied Social psychology) a shared vision is known as the extent to which team members have a clear picture of, and agree upon, the goals of the team and it holds an inter professional team together. As a midwife, my role within the team was to monitor the mother's physical health, provide prenatal care, and support her through labor and delivery. I also played a crucial role in educating the mother about HIV transmission prevention, ensuring she had access to necessary medications, and promoting positive health behaviors. By working closely with the other professionals on the team, we were able to address the mother's holistic needs and provide her with the support and resources she needed to have a healthy pregnancy. One leadership practice that supported our collaborative effectiveness was regular team meetings. These meetings allowed us to discuss the mother's progress, share insights and recommendations, and coordinate our care plans. By fostering open communication and mutual respect among team members, we were able to work together seamlessly towards a common goal of supporting mothers (IPEC 2023).
