How slow the publishing industry has been in adopting new changes to technology. I wonder what the aggregate business strategy is at companies in the industry and if the vision is forward looking in a way that includes technological innovation. If the vision includes future innovations then I would question if the business strategy were getting down to the improvement plan level for quality improvement. It is really important that the business leaders select the appropriately trained managers to own the critical improvement efforts to best position the team for success (Bacdayan, 2001). One industry that looks like they are experienced very immediate changes is the big box retailer for technology like Best Buy. It does not appear from the outside that they were prepared for the impact online merchants would have on their business. They are clearly trying to address this impact by changing but one has to wonder if this reactive strategy will be effective. What business do you think managed through this type of immediate and business critical change well and why?
