Read the article "Inside the Courthouse Break-In Spree That Landed Two White-Hat Hackers in Jail". White hat hackers are often hired to break into systems to test security. Sometimes white hat hackers are hired to break into physical buildings and test security through finite means. At present, there are few federal or state laws or regulations that specifically address this type of protocol despite its little known but regular use in government and corporate settings. How should white hat hacking be regulated or should it? In this case, what should have happened differently for the sake of the hackers, their employer, and the clients they supposedly were serving? Where does the line begin and end for ethical hacking?
