Inequity in Health Promotion: Indigenous patients
Indigenous populations have higher rates of traumatic injuries than non-Indigenous groups in Canada (and worldwide). Indigenous patients face additional difficulties because of the remote locations of reserves, from conscious or unconscious biases of health care workers, and because of the biomedical approach to care, among other reasons.
Core problem: How should interdisciplinary teams promote the health of Indigenous patients before/after traumatic injuries? What options are available?
