The summary below is mine. I am not sure if it is correct.

Summarizing the Research Question and Findings: This study looked at the hypotheses that low or exaggerated but disputed self-esteem is related to aggression among 652 12-year-old schoolchildren. Children used a peer nomination system to rate their social acceptance, physical aggression, and their self-ratings of one's global self-worth and social satisfaction. Teachers rated aggressive behavior and internalizing problems as problematic. Exaggerated yet disputable self-esteem was defined as discrepancies between self and peer evaluations of social satisfaction and social acceptance combined with peer rejection. Results showed that low levels of global self-worth and exaggerated but disputed self-esteem were associated with aggression. Based on the findings of this study, aggressive children may appear to have both low and high self-esteem, depending on how self-esteem is conceptualized. There was a strong relationship between exaggerated self-esteem and aggression in boys, compared to girls, regardless of gender.
