At a previous school, the district established a wellness center for students. If a student was feeling the need to decompress or talk to someone, a teacher could send a student there to take care of their mental health needs. Many of my students were abusing this privilege and using the wellness center to skip my science class. The school leadership and the district were not acknowledging the mental health of staff and teachers. There was no wellness center for school staff which I thought was odd and unfair. Basically the district was addressing the mental health of students, but not the school staff and teachers.
