Minimum of 1 library resource for initial post

Introduction

Observing people in their natural environment can be a powerful tool when doing research. This type of research allows researchers to look at how the real world effects behavior and to move beyond the laboratory.

Initial Post Instructions

For this discussion, you are going to imagine that a researcher has imbedded herself into your world, field study. This person may want to study your work or home environment, they may even want to study the online learning environment you are part of right now. It's up to you to pick the setting and feel free to be creative. The video link is one example of a field study that may give you some insight on how they are done.

After you pick the setting, answer the following questions about the field study. How will this researcher gain access to your world, i.e. who is the gate keeper? What role will they play, are they going to be a coworker, fellow student, or outside observer? What type of relationships will they need to build? Then most importantly what will they observe and what are some key findings they will make?

Secondary Post Instructions

It is often difficult to act as an outside observer to your own life so for your replies try to take on the role of the researcher and ask some probing questions. Also, if applicable suggest alternatives to the other student's interpretation to their world.
