Problem:
A new psychological pattern has emerged and according to Lunderberg, et al (2018), and Young (2017) it is an uncontrollable need to be online. Suggested names for this pattern are Internet Use Disorder or Internet Addiction.
This population is reported to spend at least 1 % of their waking time on the internet. The DSM workgroup has recommended one area of this pattern be called Internet Gaming Disorder. Further, it is suggested by the workgroup this area be studied further and there be possible inclusion in a future edition of the DSM. The World Health Organization (WHO) has, in fact, decided to include it in the ICD-11 as a formal category.
For this journal option, please discuss whether you feel Internet Gaming Disorder should be included in a future edition of the DSM and give your reasons to support your conclusion. Please be sure to cite any research studies you include with this entry.
