Lately, Mark has become increasingly irritable and yells at Emily for minor mistakes (e.g., forgetting to put her wet towel in the bathroom and not on her bedroom floor). Lisa tries to calm Mark but avoids intervening directly to prevent an escalation. Emily has become anxious, tiptoeing around her father and showing signs of hypervigilance. Last week, Emily accidentally broke a plate while helping wash the dishes. Mark flew into a rage, slapping Emily repeatedly and shaking her violently. Lisa tried to intervene but was pushed away. Emily sustained bruises on her arms and back. The next day, Mark felt remorseful and apologized, buying Emily new clothes and promising it would never happen again. Lisa reassured Emily that "Daddy didn't mean it." Mark also became overly affectionate. This week, the household appears stable, and Mark resumed job hunting. Emily appears happier but remains cautious.
