How much tension my previous job as a security guard

Problem: Help with peer responding to classmates discussion post

After taking both quizzes from this week, I now realize how much tension my previous job as a security guard had on my stress levels. I identified my three main stress areas as work overload stress, job related health concerns, and communication and comfort with supervisors. These stressors stemmed from the many responsibilities and challenges that came with the position. As a woman who was pregnant during my time of employment, it was difficult working in a high pressure environment such as security, especially when there were many situations where I felt both unsupported by management and overwhelmed by the workload.

One major stress area involved communication with supervisors. I often felt unable to properly relay safety concerns because management either failed to respond or there were constant changes within the management team. According to the readings, role ambiguity and poor organizational communication can increase workplace stress because employees are left without clear guidance, support, or trust in leadership (Organizational Role Stress, n.d.). There were many safety concerns at the job that threatened not only the lives of customers, but also my own safety and the safety of my unborn child. Proper regulations were not enforced, and management intervention was often lacking. Management even refused to relocate me to a safer district despite my concerns, which caused me to lose trust and confidence in supervisors. This connects to the concept of organizational injustice, where employees experience increased stress when they feel unsupported or treated unfairly within the workplace (Harassment and Discrimination, n.d.).

Work overload was another major issue. There was a constant demand for mandatory overtime because security guards were becoming increasingly scarce due to the dangerous work environment. This resulted in long hours, limited days off, and additional responsibilities that caused increased physical and emotional stress. The readings explain that role overload occurs when job demands exceed a worker's available resources, energy, or coping ability, often leading to emotional exhaustion and burnout (Organizational Role Stress, n.d.). Looking back, I now realize how much these stressors affected both my mental and physical well being during that time.

Overall, these assessments helped me better recognize how unhealthy work environments, poor leadership support, and excessive workload can significantly affect stress levels and overall health. Moving forward, I think proactive stress management, healthier work boundaries, and supportive communication systems are important in reducing work related stress. Need Assignment Help?
