Managing networks is a daunting task made even more challenging because of the large number of attacks that happen. Everyday there is a new worm or virus. Denial of Service attacks happen to everyone. Phishing scams and extortion demands are becoming more common.
With all of these threats, you (as the manager) need to decide how much effort you should put forth in order to protect your network.
This generally means how much money will you spend. If you first think about what needs to be protected, you can start to figure out what it will cost. The class should discuss options and try to come up with a consensus on how you can determine what you should spend (and why or why not) on security.
