1. One hears it said that ours is a society that "does not believe in itself" what does one likely mean by that, assuming one says it? Do you agree that ours is a society lacking convictions? why or why not? what evidence, for and against, it there for the claim in.
2. what happens when person lack belief systems, either religious or nonreligious? why is it important to have some belief system?
3. How might one see various religious fundamentalisms (in America, Israel, and throughout the islamic world) as response, more or less extreme, to a world in which the dominant trend is nihilism?
