Problem:
Hello In the reading, Christopher Brooks explains that medicine was connected in Mesopotamian society because people believed the gods controlled health, illness, and natural disasters. They believed that the gods were often cruel and could be easily offended (Brooks, 2020). The priests were responsible for calming the gods to prevent suffering such as disease or floods. An example from the reading is that priests performed rituals, sacrifices, and incantations to gain mercy from the gods in order to heal the sick. Another example is that they practiced divination, which involved trying to predict the future and understand the will of the gods (Brooks, 2020). The relationship between religion and medicine today are both similar and different. Today modern medicine isn't based off of supernatural explanations but actual scientific research. With our technology we are able to perform better research and perform evidence-based treatment. Religion does still influence healthcare in many ways though. People still pray for healing and sometimes will make healthcare decisions based on their beliefs. Unlike Mesopotamian society, though, modern medicine generally separates scientific treatment from religious belief. Reply simple Words. Need Assignment Help?
