Problem
For the last six months in the Starlight Guest Services Department, we have been trying to replace two Guest Services Representatives who have resigned and one GSR who has been promoted to the part-time Guest Service Supervisor. With the upcoming Christmas and New Year season, and right after it's the Chinese New Year, we have to refill all the vacancies before the crowds come into the casino. We need to get the staff level prepared ready for the peak season.
Before we start the hiring process, we are asking ourselves the following questions, and hopefully, our answers will increase our success rate, save our valuable time and resources.
A. How many positions do we need to fill? Explain the number of positions you decided on.
B. Based on the business plan, organization analysis, when do we need to recruit? (for example, at least 6 weeks before our business peak time on Christmas and New Year, and the 2nd wave will be the Chinese Year).
C. What type of employee do we need? (Casual basis and Entry level). Consider whether this position is a steppingstone for the employee to enter Gateway. There are job advancement opportunities because Gateway is one of the largest gaming companies in Canada.
D. What do we need our new employee to do? For instance, Guest Service Representative at Starlight meets, greets and assists guests, answers questions and resolves concerns they may have. So good communication skills are necessary. They also need to aid with the administration and tracking of marketing programs. They will need to respond to customer inquiries, providing accurate and helpful information. Because of the family facility regulation, new employees must have the Serving It Right certificate and the ability to obtain a gaming license.
E. Do new recruits require academic qualifications?
F. Would you consider an applicant with little experience, and minimal education?
