Out of the following five questions, please answer two.
1) One of the first discussions we had compared the Deathly Hallows in the Harry Potter series to the three branches of government. Which branch was designed to be the most powerful? The least powerful? Why are checks and balances between the branches important? Do you think that, currently, the branch that was intended to be the strongest actually is? Defend your answer.
2) In the film The Matrix, intelligent machines have created a computer software program that has enslaved humanity, and I allege that the media has essentially created a false reality for the American public through its coverage of the news. Choose a historical event that occurred before 2007 and research how the media's coverage of that issue/event
A) has changed over time and
B) has shaped public perception of that event.
3) The Hunger Games is an annual competition in the country of Panem between 24 tributes inside an arena. We compared the Hunger Games to elections in the United States. Choose a presidential election since 1950 and tell the story of America's ‘Hunger Games'.
A) Describe the primary election campaign - who were the front-runners for each party and what issues did these candidates run on.
B) Find at least one campaign advertisement for each of the candidates that ran in the general election (I want the name of the ad) and tell me which ad you feel is the most effective and why.
C) How many electoral votes did each candidate get?
D) Did the candidate that won the Electoral College also win the popular vote?
E) Tell me how you, as an individual, can get involved in the electoral process (other than voting) - give me some websites of places you can go to get involved.
4) Name and describe the two most common political ideologies in the United States. Do you yourself support one or the other, or are you in the middle? Tell me how you know. What is the difference between an ideologue and a moderate? Which are you and how do you know?
5) Discuss at least six current events we have covered in class. First, tell me what has occurred relating to each event. Next, tell me how you feel about the issues you chose and why. Finally, provide suggestions as to how these issues could be addressed either by our culture or, if need be, by the government.

1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
