Thermoregulation is the process the body uses to maintain a stable internal temperature. The hypothalamus plays an important role in regulating body temperature by responding to internal and external temperature changes. When the body becomes too warm, sweating and dilation of blood vessels help release heat. When the body becomes too cold, shivering and constriction of blood vessels help conserve heat and increase body temperature.
