Problem
Although the Ebonics question is framed as a question about linguistic facts, it is really about social and political issues that have little to do with linguistics. Linguistic anthropologists today often study these factors outside of the details of the language to look at how language is used to distinguish and even discriminate against non-powerful groups. Outline these factors in the case of the Oakland School District, and how linguistic facts are being used in nonlinguistic ways.
