Literary dissection is a way that you can break a piece of literature down into its components in order to gain a better understanding of how those parts make up the whole work. Take a work of fiction that you have read and dissect it in a 1-2 page Word document: What is the story's central conflict? Summarize the story's plot. Describe the story's climax. How is the climax resolved and do you think it is an effective resolution? What is the central theme of the story? In what ways do the conflicts in the story contribute to the theme?
