The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered.
For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by Week 2, Day 3.
To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.
Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Quality of healthcare data has become an increasingly important strategic issue in the United Stated healthcare delivery system.
Drawing on course readings or outside scholarly sources, answer the following:
• How is quality of healthcare data defined? In terms of accuracy, completeness, or relevance?
• If there are multiple or conflicting definitions of quality, in your opinion, which is the best definition?
• What are the factors that contribute to poor data quality in a healthcare database?
• In your opinion, which of these factors is the most important to address first?
• Support your answers with references, examples, and clearly written rationales.
Assignment 2: System Analysis
In this course, you will progressively work on a system implementation process in six stages:
• Week 1: System planning
• Week 2: System analysis
• Week 3: System selection
• Week 4: System implementation
• Week 5: User training and system maintenance
You can use Internet resources, peer-reviewed journals, and reputable, published articles, and you may interview an executive of a healthcare facility that has implemented an electronic medical record system/electronic health record system or similar system to describe the six implementation steps.
This week, you will conduct system analysis. System analysis is a process of collecting, organizing, and evaluating data about the information systems and the environment in which the system operates. For this section, you need to answer the following questions:
• What is the current system for your fictional healthcare organization?
• What problems do you have with the current system? Where do its weaknesses lie?
• What changes will the implementation of a new system yield, and how will they impact the working of the organization?
• Would you like to extend the existing system or replace it?
• What is your phase-out plan for the existing system?
