Assignment Task:
An informal conference be scheduled with the area director after citations and penalties have been issued. This can be a company's last chance to explain its process to OSHA before having to go the informal route. Many companies have proprietary technology and company secrets that they would not want to discuss in court or be seen by the public.
Pros
- Can explain the process in better detail.
- Show procedures/policies that govern a safe work environment.
- Explain what actions are currently being taken.
Cons
- Company lawyers may see it as an animation of guilt.
- Either side is not willing to budge can be seen as a waste of time and resources.
- Information shared during the visit can be used later.
