Sam was sentenced to prison for aggravated battery. While in jail, he had frequent conflicts with the other incarcerated persons and with the Sherriff's Deputies. Sam served 10 years in a medium security prison that is divided among gangs (including the Aryan Brotherhood, Norteños and Sureñeos). Sam dropped out of school at age 16 and only has the equivalent of an eighth grade education. Sam is now being paroled and preparing for reentry into the community.
