How government and civilian response to the safety issue

Assignment

Term paper should be between 10 and 15 pages long (3000 to 4000 words) excluding footnotes/endnotes, with standard spacing and font size (double spacing / font size: 11 or 12), as well as proper bibliography.

Students should pay close attention to the following issues: treatment of sources; composition of their papers; clarity of statements; writing style; grammar, and other important technical aspects of the assignment. Since this is a take-home assignment the quality of writing, grammar, style, clarity, and the ability to highlight the most significant aspects of the topic selected are of great importance. Poor writing style and grammar as well as shaky structure and the lack of clarity would result in a lower mark.

For academic style (footnotes, etc.) I recommend theChicago Manual of Style online. Get to the latter through our library online access if you want full access to the site. This is the best style guide for academic historians.

Papers will be graded with the following criteria in mind:

• research
• depth of analysis
• quality of style
• organization

On style and the writing process in general, the following website is extremely helpful: The Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL).

Papers must have footnotes or endnotes: I need to know where you're getting your information from. It is not enough just to provide notes for quotations. Even internet sources need to be cited (see Chicago Manual of Style online to learn how).

You do not need to quote an author to cite him/her. A good paper might have about fifteen footnotes.

Bibliography/list or references must be placed on a separate page at the end of your paper (see Chicago Manual of Style online to learn how to format the bibliography)

Sources: minimum of 4 secondary sources (3 books and 1 article).

At least 10 pages in total not including the footnotes

1st page- introduction
