Discussion Post: Sweatshops
Here is an analogy: America's current use of products made in overseas sweatshops is comparable to the American use of coal mined in Appalachia in the nineteenth century. Coal mining built American industry and made the economy strong; likewise sweatshops will build industry and economic stability in developing countries. How exactly are we to assess sweatshops? Are they good or bad for the host nations? Can we make sweeping judgments about them or should we approach sweatshops on a case by case basis? Include an actual example or a source to support your view.
