Problem: Give a discussion response with reference
My name is Stefanie, and I am pursuing my Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration. I earned my Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Science and currently work as a Clinical Laboratory Quality Specialist, specifically in Point of Care Testing. I am a new mom to an 8 month old boy named Lucas. Motherhood has reignited my motivation to further my career by moving into a leadership role. I am hoping this class, along with the rest of my classes, guides me to be the best leader I can be.
Epidemiology is connected to other disciplines, but microbiology stood out to me as my first career out of college was as a microbiologist. As a microbiologist, I was responsible for isolating organisms and testing for antibiotic susceptibility from various sources such as urine, stool, and wound samples. Both microbiology and epidemiology strive to identify, understand, and prevent the spread of infectious disease. However, as the name suggests, microbiology is focused on a more "micro" scale. In the lab, we fixated on isolating single organisms from a single patient source, and treating said patient with antibiotics. Epidemiology is involved on a much larger scale. The E. coli outbreak in 2015, for example, was tracked amongst the entire United States and found to be sourced from prepackaged spinach in California (Friis, R. H., & Sellers, T. A., 2021, p8). Epidemiology and microbiology share a common goal of disease control and work closely together to address public health. Need Assignment Help?
