Criteria for Critique - Answer the following questions in complete sentences and provide specific examples when possible.
1. How effectively does the writer introduce the analysis? In your opinion, would additional background on the Discourse information be helpful here?
2. Does the writer provide specific details about the features (organization of information, format, purpose, audience, persuasive appeals, diction, citation style, etc.) of the scholarship?
3. Does the writer analyze the purpose of each feature in sufficient depth? What would you like to see more (or less) of?
4. Are specific examples (direct quotations and/or paraphrase) from the scholarship effectively used to back up the writer's observations? Does the writer correctly attribute outside source material?
5. Does the writer incorporate signal phrases (https://web.plattsburgh.edu/files/2/files/Signal%20Phrases.pdf) to introduce each example?
6. Does this writer avoid evaluating the content of the authors' arguments, focusing instead on how they're conveyed?
7. Which paragraphs could be more unified, focusing on one central main point? Which paragraph topic sentences (i.e., a sentence which summarizes the content of the paragraph) could be stronger?
8. Are transitions used to successfully guide the reader through the progression of information? Where, in your opinion, are transitional devices (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/574/02/) needed?
9. Does the format / layout of the analysis match any of the conventions in the discipline as discussed by your peer? How so?
10. Which visual cues (including headings, white space, typeface, highlighting, illustration, and indentation) could be used more effectively?
12. Which paragraphs or sentences would benefit from greater clarity and conciseness?
13. Does the final paragraph provide satisfactory closure to the paper?
14. In using ethos, pathos, logos (or credibility, emotional appeal, and logical appeal), does your peer write about how these effects are SPECIFICALLY created and why?
