2. How effectively does the introduction capture your interest, explain the question to be addressed, and suggest why it is both problematic and significant?
3. Does the introduction conclude with the writer's thesis? Is the thesis surpris¬ing? How might the author improve the introduction?
ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION
1. How is the essay organized? Does the writer helpfully forecast the whole, place topic sentences at the head of paragraphs (points before supporting details), use transitions, and follow the old/new contract as explained? How might the author improve or clarify the organization?
2. Where does the author quote from the story (or use paraphrase or other specific references to the text)? How is each of the author's points grounded in the text? Where does the author do a particularly good job of reading literarily through attention to plot, character, setting, figurative language, and so forth? What passages not cited might better support the argument? What recommendations do you have for improving the author's use of supporting details?
3. Where do you disagree with the author's analysis? What aspects of the story are left unexplained? What doesn't fit?
