Watch Gilman's work and her biography. Historically, the story was based on personal experience (autobiographical)-
• How effectively does Gilman employ the events of her life.
• Where do you see the author's experiences come through?
• What commentary/theme/message is she making about society? About culture? Compare this to the message of Guernica.
