Problem: The Musical Production "RENT"
The Musical Production "RENT" was a Broadway sensation. Known not only for its music, but also for the social issues that it tackled, the musical serves as a strong representation of how drama can reflect cultural contexts of the time it was created. In the case of "Rent," the setting is New York City in the 1980s, and numerous cultural issues were reflected in the characters, stories, and settings. For this problem, you are to watch the musical and react to its messages. You may either watch the film adaptation of the musical, based on if you are able to get a hold of a copy, or you may watch the live show recording on YouTube (available in the reading section). After you watch it, reflect on at least three social/cultural issues that are addressed in the musical. Select your three topics and write at least one paragraph on each one. You should discuss the issue, the characters that represent it, the message that the story line gives, and your overall impression and thoughts on the topic after seeing the musical.
The response should include a reference list. Using one-inch margins, Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space and APA style of writing and citations.
