How does the receptor get activated what happens next once

Signal Transduction Assignment

We have learned how different receptors are involved in signal transduction. For this assignment, you will do a little research on some classic receptors that are key in signaling. You will pick a total of two receptors but must come from two different categories A, B, or C below. For each receptor, you will discuss the following:

1.) Name of receptor
2.) How does the receptor get activated? What happens next once this receptor is activated (i.e. downstream signaling)?
3.) What is the overall response from this receptor being activated?
4.) If this receptor is linked to disease, how is this receptor targeted in terms of treatment?

As usual, this assignment must be typed in Microsoft word and uploaded on Blackboard. NO HARD COPIES!!! It should be a minimum of 3 pages double spaced. You must have at least 4 references. Please make a cover page (not included in the 3 pages) with your name, section and Roster #. This assignment is due Friday December 2nd by 5 pm. LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Pick a total of two receptors from two different groups (Ex. One from Group A and the other from Group B/C)****

(A)G-protein couples receptors (C) Ligand-gated ion channels
Angiotensin II receptor (AGTR) Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor (nAChR)
Bradykinin receptor (BDKR) Serotonin (5-HT3) receptor
β-adrenergic receptor Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor (GABAA)
Somatostatin

(B)Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs)
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)
Platelet derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR)
ErbB2
