how does the lsquovision of the project

How does the ‘vision of the project manager’ in this section relate to the way you distinguish the job? Are there aspects of the job which do not appear in the vision? Why might this be?

The vision statement was written to describe the feel of the job in a way which lets project managers know what is expected of them into a qualitative way. This is not a job explanation view. This is not a pedestrian step-by-step approach to the job. This tries to communicate the emotion of the job. This is very personal.

The objectives missing are all related to the context into which the job is done. Is this UK job, and an international job, American job, a European job – this doesn’t say.

This does however imply a good deal regarding the culture into which the job exists. This is goal orientated, needing personal commitment and risk. This talks regarding challenge and shaping events to winning. This is to some extent an heroic view of the project manager and it tells something of the organisation for that the vision was made and its view of the type of project managers they needed.

This is neither everyone’s view of the project manager nor every organisation’s view but this does demonstrate how the spirit of the job can be captured into an unconventional way and communicate the enthusiasm of project management.
