FILM CHOSEN IS FREEDOM WRITER

Provide a answer to the following question:

How does your chosen film reflect the impact of arts and humanities education on adolescents?

Choose two additional questions to answer as they relate to your chosen film:

1. How does the film reflect the struggle the humanities subjects face in light of educational budget cuts? How does the film address who will pay for arts education?

2. How does the film reflect the struggle the humanities subjects face in trying to balance their arts activities with other aspects of their life?

3. How does the film address who will ultimately be responsible for adolescents' exposure to the humanities?

4. How does the film address the ways in which the arts and humanities are taught to adolescents?

5. How does the film reflect the personal and artistic challenges faced by the humanities subjects?

6. How does the film reflect the challenges faced by the humanities subjects who may not be supported by school administrators, their community, their parents and/or their peers?

Analyze the film's relevance to this course. Explain how aspects of the film you chose are related to topics and issues we have discussed and read about in class. You may also consider how aspects of the film are related to, or make you think about, an artwork, literary work, philosophical work, or piece of music we looked at, read, or listened to in class. Provide at least two (2) specific examples to support your analysis.

Create a 16- to 20-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with speaker notes that summarizes the content of the film, answers the three questions, and analyzes the film's relevance to the class. Note: The 16-to 20-slide count does not include your title slide, questions slide, and references slide.

Use three or more references, outside of the film, to support your presentation. At least one of your references must be a scholarly source and at least one of your references must be a popular source. Additionally, you must use your course text as a reference for this assignment and explain how aspects of the film are related to topics and issues we have discussed and read about in class.

Be prepared to give a 15-20 minute presentation of your film analysis to the class. In order to receive full credit, all team members must be in attendance and participate in the presentation. Note: If you would like, you may show a trailer of your film at the beginning of your presentation. This will not count against your allotted presentation time. If you decide to show clips from the film as part of your presentation, the clips will need to be factored into your 15-20 minute presentation time frame.
