Assignment:
Research the disability down syndrome in children and special education in depth and integrate what you learn from your research about the disability in a PowerPoint presentation containing at least TEN slides. Instead of a term paper, you will provide Speaker Notes for each slide as a script that could be read by the presenter. The sources of information should be documented on each slide using APA style.
Answer the following questions in the project to earn full credit:
1. How does the disability affect human development from before birth to adulthood?
2. How does the disability affect the person's ability to learn, and how are these individual differences accommodated in the developing child?
3. What fieldwork did you do to gain firsthand knowledge and experience of persons with the disability, their family members, and/or professionals who work with them?
4. What are some ways the disability is identified and how do people measure its effects in persons who have it, including those who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
5. How do teachers have to modify instruction to meet the needs of persons with this disability?
6. What are the special needs of families with person with the disability in their home? Are there any limitations or special challenges for them?
7. How can schools and other agencies help families who have a person with this disability?
In addition to the references on each slide documenting where you found the information, your PowerPoint presentation will also include an annotated bibliography of five Internet sources that would be helpful for families, teachers, and other professionals who are learning about the disability. Each of the five Internet resources should be on its own PowerPoint slide with the APA reference for it and a brief statement of why you chose to include it. Include a hot link to each resource to make it easy for the viewer to visit each site.
