In late 2014, music and technology formed a symbiotic relationship, due to the explosion of social media, mobile applications, streaming services like Spotify, and monetization technologies like YouTube's Content ID. This year, the industry can expect more major changes. For example, publishers, artists, and songwriters continue to step away from the traditional music business model, thanks to sites like Kobalt. This indie publishing company now offers labels, managers, and artists user-friendly analysis tools, which makes it easy to review and understand all their varied income streams. Marquee artists like Lenny Kravitz are even trying it out. Music owners have collaborated with tech companies that initially may seem to be odd partners, but have been successful. Hardware companies, like Beats By Dre, Technics, and Bose, have developed their own music streaming services, while Muzik (traditionally known for piping music into your favorite retail store), is doing the opposite...it's developing headphones with a one-touch social media sharing feature. Also, companies that have the ability to distribute content are seeking to partner with music owners. Leaked emails from the Sony Pictures hack show that Snapchat is interested in forming coalitions with the online video channel VEVO. Of course, regardless of the brand, label,or artist, everyone is integrating their efforts with social media platforms since that is the new metric for success. It's obvious that companies are vying to be your one-stop shop for music and while they have your attention they want to sell you some product.
