Assignment task: How would you reply?
1) Paragraph describing philosopher John Rawls and his book A Theory of Justice (1971). - John Rawls was a twentieth century American liberal philosopher. Rawls was best known for his book " A theory of justice" in which he released in 1971. John Rawls was exposed to injustices in modern world from a very young age, which inspired him to what he did. Rawls understood the fact that life was unfair, and there wasn't much being done to change that, so he went after showing people about their unfair societies and what they as a whole could about it. With this, he came up with the greatest thought experiment in the history of political thought, which he called the "Veil of Ignorance". Rawls explained this as taking away from the fact you could be born into something great, like a super rich happy family, and think about the risk of what being born into this could be.
2) How does Mass Consumption relate to Social Justice? - Mass consumption is closely related to social justice in equality. Someone with high mass consumption is someone considered a higher class, as someone with low mass consumption is not. This can also be positive as this does call for rapid consumption of consumer goods, and economic growth.
3) What is the relationship between the Civil Rights movement and Social Justice. - Civil rights movement and social justice both go hand in hand as they share the same value. Civil rights are rights to citizens to social and political equality and freedom. Social justice is justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society. Social justice activist fight to make sure citizens civil rights are maintained.
4) Clearly articulate one argument against Rawl's A Theory of Justice. Rawls theory of justice did not support utilitarianism, he choses justice, while I think justice and the main point of utilitarianism which is doing things with thought of the benefits to others go hand in hand.
