Homework: Introduction to International Justice
Length: 4 to 5 pages.
You must use class sources (text and/or outside readings) for this homework and must reference/cite those sources. You might also need/want to research other sources to provide additional background on the topic.
The paper must address one of the topics list below. It must have four sections as follows:
For each topic, you are an advisor to the President and you are providing him with an analysis/paper/memo explaining what is the current status of the topic and proposing a course of action. The four sections should cover:
i. A summary of the situation (Here you can have a "thesis statement" if you want, or you can leave that to the end).
ii. How does Realism explain the situation and what does Realism predict will happen? What would a Realist propose America should do? (Here you might want to briefly describe Realism).
iii. How does Liberalism shed light on the situation and what does Liberalism predict will happen? What would a Liberal propose for the United States to do? (Here you might want to briefly describe Liberalism not as a political agenda but as a theory of international justice).
iv. Your personal conclusion about what the President/the United States should do (based on your educated opinion drawn from the above sections).
Here are the topics you can choose (CHOOSE ONE and write four sections on it):
i. Climate change/global warming/environmental issues
ii. The migrant crisis
iii. North Korea - nuclear weapon proliferation and human rights
iv. Concept of Jus ad bellum (Just war) pertaining to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq
Note that with all of these, America does have an existing strategy/policy/course of action. You may want to summarize that policy in the first section of your paper. Regardless of the policy, write what a Realist and Liberal would do in sections two and three, and then propose your own solution in section four (which can be the existing policy, the Realist policy, the Liberal policy, or something else).
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
